Nature is all about cycles. The seasons, day and night, the menstrual cycle, the Krebs cycle, the water cycle…you name it. We sometimes forget that we too are part of nature.

What goes around comes around. If you pollute your environment you are poisoning yourself. It’s Karma on a very personal scale.

Interestingly, the Greek roots of “eco” mean house, or household. The term ecosystem is actually more at home in your home.

So when your partner is nasty to you, you have a choice. You can be nasty back, and feed the climate change between you, or you can make a better choice. Not being self-righteous or a martyr, but just not continuing the cycle of pain.

“How do I do that? Do I just have to take it!?”

No.

You can do at least two things. Either one, or both together.

One: say something simple like “Ouch. That hurt.”

Not “You hurt me!” or “What you just did was very hurtful!” or “You asshole!” Those statements put it back on the other person. Just speak about your pain simply. “I’m hurt.” It doe…
